Sauna and ice-hole swimming

Preparing to wash

Before washing, you need to take a good steam, then cool down in the shower and take a warm bath - the water will absorb all the excess that was removed from the skin with hot steam.
After the bath, you need to rinse off in a hot shower, and then you can start washing. Prepare water to wash your body. Fill a basin with warm water, add a decoction of herbs or some birch leaves and beat the soap - you will get a fragrant healing foam. For washing in a bathhouse, it is best to use a sponge made from linden bast, which when steamed becomes silky and soft. The skin will look the same after peeling with bast sponge. This is explained by the fact that the surface of the bast is completely covered with tiny fibers, the thickness of which is comparable to the size of human pores. This is why a washcloth not only massages and scrubs the skin, but also unclogs pores. In addition, during the bath procedure, fibers release phytoncides - the best remedy against microbes. How to Simply Recommend

Why the medicine does not work The key to successful treatment is, of course, following all the doctor’s recommendations and informing him of all significant changes during therapy. However, a specialist can talk as much as he wants about the regimen and duration of taking the drug, but most patients will still violate these rules. Read more

Before use, the washcloth must be steamed in boiling water. You need to lather with it in wide circular movements, performed clockwise. You need to lather and at the same time massage your body with a washcloth until the skin turns pink.

How do different peoples wash in the bathhouse?

Of course, every nation has its own concepts of hygiene, and they vary greatly. Even at the dawn of mankind, there were unwritten “rules” for bathing. In the cave age, wild people swam extremely rarely and only when they had to live near a river or lake. At a later time, bathing gradually became a regularly performed activity and acquired traditions. Sometimes they are still strange and can surprise.

Let's start with what a “bathhouse” is among different peoples. For example, among the Scythian tribes these were small yurts made from scrap materials. These yurts were not used for housing, since they were temporary (one-day) in nature and could be easily dismantled. Before washing, flat stones were placed in them and heated over a fire. Then they poured water on the hot stones, and bunches of herbs were burned in the yurt for a special smell.

The “bathhouse” of the Indian tribes was very similar in design. Only instead of felt, the poles folded into a cone were covered with tanned skins of wild animals. By the way, the structure of the “bath” remains this way even now. It is curious that to raise the “mood”, Indian tribes also use herbs and their seeds, throwing them on hot stones.

Capital places for swimming did not appear immediately. The peoples of Italy, China, India, Greece were the first to acquire them... But everything was presented only as large rooms for mass quick washing without any specific other procedures. For comparison, we can say that the current bathhouse is primarily of a therapeutic and preventive nature.

The centuries-old traditions of the Russian bathhouse most effectively meet this goal. It is not so much for washing as for strengthening the whole body and raising vitality. For a real bath, bath brooms were prepared. Young birch branches, on which leaves have just appeared and smell of propolis, were suitable for them. It gave a special smell to the air in the bathhouse. During the bathing process, birch propolis entered the lungs and was partially absorbed into the body through the skin when whipped with a broom.

The tradition of having birch brooms is a long-standing and very strong one. Although in some villages birch is replaced by other plants. Exotic - brooms made from overgrown nettles. They are for one time, but after such a broom, the aches in the body completely disappear. True, this is not an acquired taste. A nettle broom surprises even people who know a lot about bath brooms.

Of course, every nation has its own bathhouse nuances.

In a Russian bathhouse, foreigners are amazed by the steam room. The temperature in it is raised to a level so that the skin “cracks”. Traditionally, after a steam room, you need to rinse with cold water in the warm season or go out and throw yourself into the snow in winter. Stress is significant for the body. Foreigners don’t understand what’s funny about the Russians. We don’t understand the “special” folk traditions of other baths.

Russian and Finnish baths have common origins. But the difference between them is cardinal. The Finnish sauna surprises with dry hot air supplied into the room from electric fireplaces. This technology allows you to quickly heat the bath to a high temperature.

Hammam - Turkish bath Photo: Depositphotos

A similar technique is used in the Turkish bath. She also surprises with her high temperature. But the nuance is that in a Turkish bath it is not the air itself that is heated, but the marble walls. The air itself is very humid and condenses into droplets. Only experienced people can breathe such air.

The Japanese bath does not have a steam room. This is somehow not entirely clear to us. All bathing in a Japanese bath consists of prolonged repeated rubbing with a washcloth, dousing with warm water over and over again and then “soaking” in a vat, in which you are supposed to completely relax.

The Swedish bath is no less interesting. It has two special holes. One is located under the stove itself (it draws in cold air near the floor), and the second is in the steam room. As a result, the temperature rises to a very high level. It is difficult to sustain it for more than two or three minutes. But the heat makes you sweat a lot, which is also typical in the Russian steam room.

The Irish baths are curiously designed. They copied the operating principle of Roman baths. What surprises the Irish is that they have not one steam room in their bathhouse, but three! The first is relatively cool, the second is noticeably warmer, and the third is hot. The bottom is lined with bricks with holes into which hot air is pumped.

Of course, there are certain features in the baths of other nations, but, unfortunately, I know nothing about them.

Washing in the bath

Start rubbing from the neck.
Movements in this sensitive area should be gentle and light. Massage only the sides and back of your neck. Then move on to rubbing your chest and shoulders. Rub your chest in two directions - first from the sternum to the neck, then to the armpits. It is advisable to use a sponge to wash the armpit areas. Rub your hands from the elbow joints upward, then wash your hands and forearms. If the skin on your elbows is keratinized, cracked and rough, soak your elbows in a basin of soapy water for 10-15 minutes. After the bath, apply nourishing cream to them. After several procedures, the skin on your elbows will become smooth and soft.

When rubbing your legs, start from the inner thigh. Use light circular motions and gradually move to the side and back areas. Then rub the washcloth onto your shins and feet.

You should pay special attention to washing your feet. In addition to the washing basin, which usually has a round shape, take an oval basin designed specifically for washing your feet. Fill it with warm, slightly soapy water, add a pinch of soda and place the basin on the floor. While you wash, let your feet rest in it. At the end of bathing, rub each foot with a pumice stone, removing the stratum corneum. As a result, the skin will become elastic and you will feel extraordinary lightness in your legs. After the bath, you can lightly lubricate your feet with olive oil and let it absorb.

Lastly, wash your hair. Hair must be immersed in soap suds diluted in a basin. Regular soaps containing large amounts of alkali irritate and degrease the hair and scalp. It is best to wash your hair with egg shampoo, which contains everything you need to nourish your hair and enhance its natural shine.

The water should be soft. Snow or rain water is most suitable for washing hair. If there is none, soften plain water by adding a teaspoon of ammonia or baking soda.

Bath calendar for July 2020

A bathhouse is a place where a person can cleanse his soul and body.
Everything here is aimed at cleansing the body and mind. The bathhouse truly includes all the “wisdom” accumulated by humanity over many, many years and interacts in a certain way with the physical and psychological spheres of our lives. According to Eastern sages, these spheres are closely connected with the energy processes of our body. As you can see, the bathhouse is a medical complex that was used by our great-grandfathers. For many peoples that have not yet been reached by civilization, bath days are like unique rituals. People choose them by consulting the moon. Firstly, the whole family goes to the bathhouse and spends the whole day there, cleansing their body. So to speak, they combine business with pleasure. Quick transition by day July 2020

Try and systematically visit the bathhouse.
Just be sure to coordinate these visits with your body’s biological rhythms and overall health. You should postpone going to the bathhouse if you have a fever, vomiting or bleeding, feel dizzy, have high blood pressure, or have chronic diseases. This means that in order to introduce a bathhouse into your life, you need to be healthy. For some diseases (for example, asthma, hypertension), bath procedures should be limited or abandoned altogether. Make a schedule for visiting the bathhouse based on the characteristics of your body, and then these visits will give you only positive effects. For those who are considered absolutely healthy, the bath has no contraindications. Go to the steam room right now, but don't forget to look at the lunar calendar for the city of Moscow!
